Biography — Curriculum Vitae
Dr. Stephen David Smith is a graduate of Lafayette College and received his D.M.D. Degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps including a Tour of Duty in Vietnam. He has been in Private Dental Practice in Paoli, Pa. for 42 years, and recently retired to focus his expertise on Digital Photography and writing. He was a Diplomat of the American Board of Cranio-Facial Pain, Academy of Pain Management, and American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. He is Professor Emeritus, Ear, Nose and Throat Dept., at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and a Life Member of the American Dental Association. He has published peer-reviewed papers in the scientific journals featuring his clinical photography, and given digital photography clinics.
Since starting in 1957, He has used numerous types of 35mm cameras, and began the digital format 2000, expanding his knowledge through the present high definition digital images over many years, through the present 2017 book edition, and will continue into the future. His most recent publication is a 2 volume encyclopedia: entitled “Creative Digital Photography: The Evolution from 35mm Film to High Definition Imaging and Beyond“. It contains many different broad subjects, which should draw a wide appeal for it’s readership, bring out the fun of photographic expression, and inspire better, more creative imaging!
The release of the 2-volume pictorial encyclopedia on Creative Digital Photography © 2017 was followed by a 10-week course at Immaculata University, Lifelong Learning Institute. A Photo-Art Gallery was presented in Exton, and also an evening lecture at the Chester County Library on “DSLR/mirrorless cameras vs. advanced smartphone photo technologies”. Book preparation work was done with a nearby professional photography studio in full-frame camera setups using strobe lighting systems for closeups and portraiture.
The 2-textbook set is now listed in Barnes & Noble.com, Amazon.com, and in international photography digital media catalogs in United Kingdom (Alibris), Germany, Holland, Denmark, Japan, New Zealand, and Australia. The publisher, Infinity, has them available in the hardbound, soft cover and E-books at buybooksontheweb.com. They did a press release that was featured on 190 website news resources on August 18th, 2017. The book set is currently doing a 5-city “Tour” through the publisher in the New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Chicago, and Los Angeles regions. The University of Pennsylvania Bookstore has them featured on special display under their “Penn Authors” section.
The University Penn Alumni Gazette July/August 2017 issue made note of these digital photography books, including the 4-page photo documentary int he architecture chapter, done on their new Singh Nanotechnology Center.
